The Latvian ice hockey team for the first time in history reached the semi-finals of the World Championship, which is taking place these days in Latvia and Finland. In the game of the 1/4 finals, the hosts of the world championship on the ice arena in Riga beat Sweden with a score of 3:1.
For Latvian hockey players, this was the first ever entry into this stage of the World Cup. Prior to that, the Latvian team participated five times in the quarterfinals of the Ice Hockey World Championship and lost all five times.
For an exit in the ending Latvia will struggle with the Canada which has passed Finland (4:1). The second pair of semi-finalists will be the USA – Germany.
It should be noted that a week ago, Russia’s main propaganda channel, Match TV, suspended the broadcasting of Latvia’s matches at the Ice Hockey World Cup, excluding both live broadcasts and reruns.
The reason for this was the behavior of the Latvian fans, who stretched out a banner with the Ukrainian flag and the inscription “Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!” at the match with the Canadian team!
