Relegation battle in the Bundesliga: Schalke is relegated, Stuttgart in the relegation

There were big fan marches on Saturday afternoon before the game started, and not only in Dortmund. But also in Bochum and in Stuttgart. The fan march of the little ones, so to speak, who don’t want to celebrate a title at the end of the evening, but not relegation. It should be a nice evening for the Bochum fans. With the 3:0 (2:0) of VfL against a rather indisposed and, above all, 82 minutes outnumbered team from Bayer Leverkusen, Bochum made it. The club will be allowed to stay in the Bundesliga for at least another year.

The team from Schalke 04, just a few kilometers away, didn’t make it. Schalke lost 2: 4 (1: 2) at RB Leipzig and follow Hertha BSC in league two. It remains to be seen whether VfB Stuttgart will follow the two. The Swabians drew 1-1 at home against TSG Hoffenheim and now have to play in the two relegation games where they meet either Hamburger SV or FC Heidenheim (final decision on Sunday from 3.30 p.m.).

Bochum were able to thank Leverkusen’s Amine Adli, who was sent off after eight minutes for assault. From then on, the game ran for Bochum, who scored their goals through Philipp Förster, Takuma Asano and Kevin Stöger. The latter had once been under contract with VfB. The Stuttgarters missed it on Saturday, despite numerous chances to score. Attackers Serhou Guirassy and Chris Führich were negative in this respect.

FC Schalke 04 are probably the relegated hearts this season. Coach Thomas Reis’ team drew 0-2 against the well-funded top club RB Leipzig through Marcin Kaminski and an own goal by Willi Orban, before Yussuf Poulsen and Christopher Nkunku but met late to the Leipzig victory. It was a respectable last game for Schalke, who had already played a respectable second half of the season. (tsp)
