Football: City; new troubles for Mendy, 2 more rape charges

Covid, Ricciardi:

(ANSA) – ROME, NOVEMBER 16 – Still troubles for Benjamin Mendy. The Manchester City defender has been indicted on two other crimes of sexual assault. The French international, who is currently in custody in Liverpool’s Altcourse prison, will have to appear before the Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to answer six counts of violence and sexual abuse contained in the complaints of four young women. The alleged violence was allegedly carried out between October 2020 and August 2021. Mendy has been a Manchester City player since 2017 when he was signed by Monaco for around 60 million euros. Following the allegations received, the 27-year-old defender was suspended from his club.

In total, there are 6 allegations of rape and one of sexual assault. Mendy, along with Louis Saha Matturie, the other accused, will have to appear in court in Stockport tomorrow.

Mendy had been “placed” in provisional detention at the end of August. His club, where he has served since 2017, had suspended him minutes before police announced his arrest. At the origin of the complaints against the two men are four women, all over the age of 16. To sign Mendy, who returned to Marseille and for a season at Monaco, City had shelled out 52 million pounds (around 60 million euros), making the young French side the most expensive defender in history at the time.
