(ANSA-AFP) – DORTMUND (GERMANY), DEC 05 – The young English striker of Borussia Dortmund, Jude Bellingham, yesterday evening, after the big match lost against Bayern Munich, launched accusations of fraud to the referee of the match. The Gialloneri were narrowly defeated (3-2) at home, and thanks to a much-discussed penalty. “If you watch a lot of decisions during the match … What can you expect if you rely on a referee who has rigged Germany’s biggest match in the past to whistle?” Said the forward on Norwegian TV Viaplay. . Bellingham was referring to referee Felix Zwayer being involved in 2005, when he was 23, in the biggest match-fixing scandal in German football: the Robert Hoyzer affair.

The latter, then referee, admitted that he had rigged the results of several matches of the German Cup, in exchange for money paid by a Croatian mafia group very active in the world of sports betting. It had in particular granted non-existent penalties. Robert Hoyzer was sentenced to a prison term at the time and Felix Zwayer, who was his linesman at the time, was suspended for six months by the Sports Court of the German Football Association. He was criticized for being aware of Hoyzer’s actions, but not for having reported them immediately, and for having received a small sum of money from him – 300 euros – without however establishing an active participation in a match-fixing. Despite this past, Bellingham’s remarks could lead the Federation to sanction him because, traditionally, he is harsh on the accusations made against the referees. Borussia Dortmund coach Marco Rose himself was sent off the pitch after attacking the referee.
