Sofia Goggia today has very clear ideas: no distractions, not even after the amazing feat of three victories in three days. Instead, continue with absolute concentration in view of the next races. Its watchword is in fact only one: “stay on track”. because only in this way can he continue to win.
And the next races – for her who, true queen of jet girls, is first in the descent ranking and first in the super-G one – are those destined to give her other great satisfactions. In fact, next weekend in St. Moritz there will be two super-Gs and the memory of Sofia goes to that of 2019 won in front of her partner Federica Brignone. The two in these next races will again be the top Italian athletes with the addition of Marta Bassino, wisely brought back to this discipline after the failed attempt to engage her in the special slalom as happened to Levi. Then, on the weekend of 18 and 19 December, in Val d’Isere there will be a descent and another superg. In short, the next four cup matches will all be in favor of Sofia Goggia. Which – given what she managed to do at Lake Louise – does not mean that we have the absolute certainty of always beating rivals like Lara Gut-Behrami. But it certainly leaves a reasonable expectation that the blue will collect a good package of points in the general classification. Where, it is worth remembering, the blue is third with 315 points while the lead is Mikaeala Shiffrin with 405 followed by the Slovak Petra Vhlova with 340. While she has Vhlova, a technical skier in a giant special, in these next races there is no need to fear, Mikaela Shiffrin is such a champion – despite the disappointing results of Lake Louise (26 / a and 38 / a in the two descents, 6 / a in the super-G) – that she can launch terrible attacks at any time . Certainly there is ‘but’ that Mikaela at the moment is not the best Shiffrin, while Sofia is doing very well and could take advantage of it by taking the top of the standings. And the world seen from the top of that ranking is another thing: it is a view that gives very strong competitive emotions and motivations. So it is more than understandable that Sofia’s order is: ” stay on track ”.
The blue n.1 – and not from today, after the achievements of Lake Louise – among her many admirers she has many Austrian athletes, technicians and journalists, those of the country where she is in the head, in the heart and in the blood. In addition to the technical qualities, they too love Sofia’s infinite courage and almost the bravado with which she competes, never sparing: an exciting, heart-pounding skiing. Well, in Lake Louise, as every winner does, Sofia also presented herself in front of the cameras of the Austrian TV ORF for the usual interview. It also happened last Friday – the day of the Azzurri’s first victory – with questions and answers in English, as usual. Same scene on Saturday, the day of his second victory: questions and answers in English. But on Sunday, the day of the third sensational victory of the blue, Sofia replied smilingly in German to the journalist who was interviewing her in English. A good German – the dominant language in the white circus when Austrians and Swiss seemed to be the only ones to dominate – with even some Tyrolean dialectal accent.
In short, Sofia – a cultured, intelligent and curious girl – found the time and the passion to go beyond school studies and study well even this very important language in the world of skiing, letting some South Tyrolean teammate suggest accents and expressions. .
The positive effect was overwhelming and Sofia also gained other fans and admirers.
