(ANSA) – PARIS, 09 DEC – The Qhubeka team, already in financial difficulties, disappears from the group of the World Tour 2022 which will return to 18 formations, its original format.
The registration of the South African team was refused by the UCI, which today published the list of selected teams after examining the various criteria (ethical, financial, administrative, organizational). The 18 first division teams are automatically qualified for all the events of the World Tour calendar, i.e. the biggest races of the season, such as the Belgian Alpecin and the French Arkea-Samsic, first two teams of the second division of the world ranking, which will thus have access to Tour de France, Giro and Vuelta. The third, the French TotalEnergies team, is invited to the WorldTour for a day in 2022.
Qhubeka, created in 2008, has participated in the Tour de France six times and won seven stages. The South African group has been present at the highest world levels since 2016 and this year had 27 riders in pink. If Fabio Aru preferred to interrupt his career, Giacomo Nizzolo joined the Israel Sn team and the Belgian Victor Campenaerts at the Lotto. (HANDLE).
