Bayern ‘decimated’ by Covid loses against Borussia MG

Plans by Bobbio, Massimo Fossati:

(ANSA) – MUNICH, JANUARY 07 – ‘Decimated’ by the absences caused by Covid, Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich were beaten 2-1 at home by Borussia Moenchengladbach and could now see the advantage over the another Borussia, that of Dortmund, if tomorrow the gialloneri win in Francofote against Eintracht.

Bayern would have liked this game to be postponed, but this was not the case and with Neuer remaining in quarantine in the Maldives, where he was on vacation, and many other illustrious absentees, coach Julian Nagelsmann made use of six youth players, including including the 19-year-old striker Malik Tillman, lined up in the starting line-up and then replaced, during the second half, by the talented Paul Wanner.

The latter, at 16 years and 15 days of age, has become the youngest league rookie in Bayern’s history.

Robert Lewandowski was on the field, and as usual he left his mark by scoring the Bavarian advantage, but then Moenchengladbach (without Zakaria, also out for Covid) overturned the game thanks to goals from Neuhaus and Lainer.

“Borussia Moenchengladbach are certainly not our favorite rival”, commented Thomas Muller at the end of the game, which alluded to the 5-0 defeat against the same team last October in the German Cup. (HANDLE).
