(ANSA) – ISTANBUL, 10 JAN – Galatasaray announced the departure “by mutual agreement” of their coach Fatih Terim, at the end of a disappointing first part of the season. Terim “will not continue in his current role from today,” the club wrote on their Twitter account, without further details or explanations.
Turkey’s runner-up last season, Galatasaray – Turkey’s most successful team (22 league titles) – occupy 12th place in the standings after 20 games, 22 points behind leaders Trabzonspor. On Saturday he was defeated (0-1) at home by modest Giresunspor, 14 / o in Super Lig.
Nicknamed “the emperor,” Fatih Terim, 68, had led Galatasaray three times before taking over the reins in December 2017 for the fourth time. With the ‘Lions’ of Istanbul he has won the Turkish championship eight times and, above all, he won the UEFA Cup against Arsenal in 2000, the only European trophy won by a Turkish team. (HANDLE).
