23-year-old cyclist Dorian Foulon clinched a gold medal in the individual pursuit at the Tokyo Paralympic Games this Friday after beating Australia’s Alistair Donohoe in the final. This is the second French gold medal after that of Alexandre Léauté on Thursday.
Cyclist Dorian Foulon offered the French team its second gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games on Friday by winning the individual pursuit final (category C5). Reigning world champion in the specialty, the 23-year-old rider, also at ease on the road, beat Australian Alistair Donohoe in the gold final after setting a new world record in qualifying (4 min 18 sec 274).
Six medals for the French
Born with a club foot on the left side, Dorian Foulon has less power due to a blockage in his ankle following multiple operations to straighten his foot. He had finished sixth in the kilometer the day before, already at the Izu velodrome. Before switching to road races, he will compete in team speed on Saturday alongside Kevin Le Cunff (4th in the C5 pursuit) and Alexandre Léauté, the French delegation’s first gold medalist. The latter, after his Paralympic title the day before in pursuit (category C2), won silver on the kilometer on Friday (category C1-3). These two track medals bring the French total to six.
