Is the Earth threatened by the evaporation of the oceans, like Mars

Scientists have found that a hot alloy of hydrogen with iron and sulfur is divided into two components, being under pressure

Oceans disappeared from Mars field of meteorite bombardments

It is well known that Mars once had oceans due to the presence of a powerful magnetic field similar to Earth’s, but the magnetic field suddenly disappeared.

Meteorites hit Mars billions of years ago, and they damaged its crust, which is thinner than the earth, writes Latestly.

The magnetic field is maintained by constant movements flows of liquid metal in the planet’s crust.

But meteorites brought iron enriched with sulfur into the composition. As a result, the material was divided into two molten parts – iron with sulfur and hydrogen with iron.

The iron-rich liquid turned out to be denser than the composition of sulfur and iron. She plost the ability to maintain a magnetic field, and hydrogen rushed away from the planet.

Soon the oceans also disappeared. The Earth’s crust, however, will be able to maintain a magnetic field for at least another billion years.
