Samsung: the launch of its folding PC would be imminent

In 2021, sales of Samsung’s folding smartphones finally took off. And now that this type of product is finally of interest to the general public, Samsung is very well positioned compared to its competitors in this segment.

Normally, the Korean giant should increase its production of folding smartphones this year. But at the same time, this one explores new form factors.

In November, Samsung Display, the group’s subsidiary specializing in screens, gave an overview of the types of devices that could be designed using its technologies. And among the renderings published by it, there was that of a laptop with a foldable screen.

Rumors have also started circulating about a product called “Galaxy Book Fold 17” which would be Samsung’s first foldable screen PC, and which could be launched in the first half of 2022.

Samsung Galaxy Book Fold 17: an imminent launch?

Samsung hasn’t teased this product yet (it was certainly still busy with the launch of the Galaxy S22). But according to an article published this week by our colleagues from Sammobile, the product is still in the pipeline. And its launch could even be imminent.

Citing Korean media, Sammobile says Samsung would like to use foldable screens to bolster its laptop lineup. And this one would like to launch the Galaxy Book Fold 17 as soon as possible. In addition to the model with a 17-inch screen, Samsung is also working on prototypes with 10-inch and 14-inch screens.

Nevertheless, this information should of course be treated with caution. Moreover, Sammobile explains that it is even possible that, ultimately, Samsung’s foldable screen PC will not be released this year. Indeed, the group would face some production-related challenges.

In any case, Samsung will not be the first to produce a PC with a foldable screen. Indeed, at the end of 2020, it was Lenovo which formalized the very first computer of this type. And at CES in Las Vegas in January, ASUS unveiled a laptop with a foldable OLED screen: the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED.
