After 15 years Facebook changes its name to Newsfeed, now just Feed

(ANSA) – ROME, FEBRUARY 16 – After 15 years Facebook changes the name of the News Feed, that is the flow of news that users scroll to see what their friends and family have shared. Now it will simply be called ‘Feed’, according to a tweet that the company has posted in these hours. The term ‘News Feed’ has existed since the feature was first introduced more than 15 years ago.

“It’s just a name change to better reflect the different content people see on their feeds, it doesn’t have a wider impact on the app experience,” Facebook spokesperson Dami Oyefeso told the specialist site The Verge. .

According to the newspaper, the rebranding seems to reflect Facebook’s “messy” relationship with news distribution and disinformation. In a memo to employees, Meta said the name ‘News Feed’ made users think it was a place for news instead of friends’ posts.

Facebook, born in February 2004, in October 2021 changed its name to Meta, a company under which there are Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. Meta clearly refers to the Metaverse, the new technology on which Mark Zuckerberg is pushing, in which the virtual presence will be equivalent and parallel to the physical one, thanks to a virtual reality device.
