The earth may acquire planetary intelligence: when will it happen

Scientists explored a curious question: if there is intelligent life on the planet, can the planet itself have its own planetary intelligence?

Earth can acquire planetary intelligence

Such a collective consciousness could unite all living things on the planet and technology into a single network, the researchers suggested.

American scientists in their study, scientists relied on the hypothesis that the biosphere interacts with non-living systems to support life on Earth, writes Phys.

Now our civilization is something like an “immature technosphere” – man-made systems and technologies that affect the planet but are not self-sustaining.

Currently there is intelligent life on Earth, but there is no planetary intelligence, but when humanity can achieve full interaction between the technosphere and the biosphere, it will appear.

Scientists have identified four evolutionary stages in the past and future of the Earth:

  • Stage 1 – the immature biosphere of the very early Earth, life did not really affect all the planetary systems of the Earth.
  • Stage 2 – The mature biosphere, between 2.5 billion and 540 million years ago, had a strong impact on the Earth, helping to maintain the habitability of the planet.
  • Stage 3 – immature technosphere – here and now, all technologies are interconnected, but not connected with the main biosystems of the Earth, which has a bad effect on the planet.
  • Stage 4 – mature technosphere – all technological systems must be integrated into the main systems of the Earth and will help both the biosphere and the technosphere to flourish.

According to scientists, planetary intelligence should look like the unification of the actions of all systems existing on Earth, both living and artificially created, into one complex system.
