Nuclear winter and the end of the world: how Putin’s nuclear strike will turn out for the planet

The West helps Ukraine with weapons, but does not plan to intervene in the war. He is stopped by the threat that a deranged Vladimir Putin might use nuclear weapons. What could this mean for the world?

After Putin’s blitzkrieg on Ukraine failed, the head of the Russian Federation ordered his generals to prepare nuclear weapons.

How many nuclear warheads does Russia have

According to nuclear policy experts Hans Christensen and Matt Korda, Russia currently has about 4,477 nuclear weapons in service and about 5,977 “decommissioned” warheads awaiting dismantling.

Of the accumulated, approximately 1,588 strategic warheads have been deployed:

  • 812 – on ground-based ballistic missiles
  • 576 – on ballistic missiles of submarines
  • 200 – at the bases of heavy bombers.

Approximately 977 more strategic warheads are in storage, as well as approximately 1,912 non-strategic warheads.

Meanwhile, the US has an arsenal of about 5,500 nuclear warheads, of which 3,800 are ready for rapid deployment.

Together, the two countries’ stockpiles are believed to account for 90 percent of the world’s nuclear weapons.

What will happen if Russia launches a nuclear war

The scientists simulated a scenario in which Russia launched a massive strike on the United States and other Western countries – this is about 150 times the power of all the bombs detonated during World War II.

As a result of the attack, 770 million people will die, and those who survive will face a “nuclear winter” provoked by the release of ash and soot into the atmosphere. Blocking direct sunlight will lead to global cooling, crop failure and famine.

The second scenario, less negative, takes into account a smaller amount of ash emissions. But even so, it will block out 30-40% of the sunlight on Earth for at least six months, the average temperature will drop significantly, and the Northern Hemisphere will remain sub-zero temperatures for many months.

And if there is a “preventive” strike

Many experts are inclined to believe that we will still be able to avoid a total nuclear conflict. But there may be so-called tactical weapon attacks.

In the arsenal of the United States and Russia, about 30-40% of such weapons. It includes air and sea-based weapons with a range not exceeding 650 km. But even tactical bombing will cause catastrophic destruction, writes express.co.uk.

Recall that the Pentagon responded to the threats of Russian President Vladimir Putin about nuclear weapons. Maniac put the nuclear “deterrence” forces on high alert.
