How intelligence obtains information

The enemy uses the Open-Source Intelligence system. For the first time, the term OSINT was used by the military and intelligence services. to refer to the collection of strategically sensitive but publicly available information in matters of national security.

Back in the 40s of the last century the CIA claimed that up to 80% of intelligence is obtained from open sources.

With the development of the Internet, social networks have become a real storehouse of information that various structures and attackers can use for their own purposes.

How it works

For example, you wrote on social networks that a convoy of vehicles drove past your house, and some time ago, maybe even a few years ago, you boasted that you could see a local landmark from your window.

After analyzing this information, the bot will determine your location. And there can be thousands of such messages! So imagine what kind of picture you can add to enemy intelligence.

Special software allows attackers to get any information. At the same time, this is not necessarily done by a living person, a special bot is enough to collect and process information.

Examples

A sad example is the bombing of the Drama Theater in Mariupol. The day before, one of the refugees who left the city said that women and children were hiding in the theater. The next day, the invaders fired on the building.

Another case is the destruction of the mall in Kyiv. Even in the first days of the war, videos appeared on the Web of vehicles driving near it, and as a result, Russia dealt a crushing blow to the building.
