Over time, the man’s condition deteriorated to such an extent that he could not talk to his family.

As part of the study, doctors implanted two microchipseach about 1.5 mm in diameter, into the patient’s motor cortex, the area at the top of the human brain that is responsible for controlling movement.

The researchers then taught the man to imagine physical movements to try and get a signal from the brain.

When the electrodes registered an increase in activity, the computer played a rising audio tone. When brain activity dropped, a descending tone sounded.

By learning to control the frequency of the tone, the man was able to choose a specific letter on a special board. True, it took about a minute.

One of the doctors admitted that he spent a lot of time with the patient and sat with him until midnight. Every time the last word was “beer”.

The results of the study are revolutionary for medicine, because until now, devices that read signals from the outside of the skull did not allow you to pronounce words.

Earlier we wrote that a patient who received the world’s first pig heart transplant died two months later. The exact cause of death is not yet known.
