(ANSA) – MILAN – Pinterest has announced a new policy that prohibits users from posting disinformation content about the climate on the platform. The social network, which is based on the sharing of photographs, videos and images, even found online, through ‘pins’, has decided to take a clear position against fake news on an environmental theme. The novelty comes in the month in which World Earth Day is celebrated, April 22.

For example, posts that deny the existence or impact of climate change, man’s effect on climate change or the fact that climate change is endorsed by the scientific community. False or misleading content on solutions to combat climate change, which contradict the opinion of the scientific community, or which distort scientific data, such as omissions or partial selections, in order to undermine trust in science and experts.

But also sharing of elements that minimize emergency situations for public safety, including natural disasters and extreme weather conditions. Violators may incur a temporary censorship of their account up to a definitive ban. “On Pinterest we are seeing a growth in research on eco-sustainability. Our users regularly use the platform to start adopting a more sustainable lifestyle,” the social network pointed out. One of the trends on the site concerns ‘zero waste advice’, with which members can read tips and tricks for recycling what they have at home.
