(ANSA) – MILAN, APRIL 12 – Meta, the company that took over the leadership of all the products in the Facebook circle, has revealed that it will soon begin experimenting with a way to purchase goods and services in the metaverse. A number of selected developers will be able to place their stores on Horizon Worlds, Meta’s metaverse platform. As anticipated by Meaghan Fitzgerald, the product marketing director for Horizon, at The Verge, it will be both objects for virtual worlds, accessories or furnishings, and access to exclusive areas and experiences. With this test, Meta follows the same path as other apps, such as Roblox and Rec Room, which already allow creators to sell the items they develop. Meta will retain a portion of what the testers sell. The company has not specified how much but the figure should be on what is already in force for purchases on Oculus Store, the digital store for Quest viewers. Here Meta receives 25% on 70% of the price of each good, with the remaining 30% being withheld in the form of individual purchase taxes. To push the creation and sale of products for the metaverse, Meta will also initiate a goal-based loyalty program. The more the buyer base for a given service grows, the more creators will receive free-of-deduction compensation. In February, Horizon Worlds reached 300,000 monthly users in the United States and Canada, the only two countries currently open to the platform. At The Verge, Sharma recalled how in Meta’s plans there is the desire to bring Horizon Worlds to smartphones by the end of the year, as well as to the main game consoles, although in this case the timing is longer.
