After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, more and more people try not to be associated with the aggressor country. So, the founder of the social network Vkontakte and the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov asked Forbes not to call him a Russian billionaire.

“Pavel left Russia many years ago with no intention of returning,” his spokesman said.

He added that Durov, who lives in Dubai, received French citizenship last year.

He also has Ukrainian roots. His grandmother was from Russia, which Durov himself spoke about at the beginning of the war.

“If you follow my posts, you know that I trace my ancestry from Kyiv through my mother’s line. Her maiden name Ivanenko is Ukrainian, and to this day we have many relatives living in Ukraine.

Therefore, this tragic conflict has a personal meaning both for me and for Telegram,” the developer said.
