Earth Day, what Italians are looking for on Google

(ANSA) – MILAN, APRIL 20 – On the occasion of Earth Day, which is celebrated on April 22, Google has put together the search trends of Italians on sustainability from January to April this year, with the list of places ‘green’ most visited on Google Maps. Among the topics of greatest interest, those related to energy, pollution, consumption on the move, the way we eat while respecting the environment. “What is sustainable development?” and “What are greenhouse gases?” the most typed questions online. On Google Maps, in first place among the most eco-sustainable destinations are the “charging stations for electric vehicles”, up 169% on 2021, followed by “farmers’ market”, the spaces dedicated to the purchase of products at zero km . The themes that have been trending in the research, with an important growth compared to the same period of the previous year, concern “sustainable urban infrastructure”, “water safety” and “environment”. On the agenda also “sustainable life” (+ 375%) “marine energy” (+ 370%) and “green economy” (+ 178%).

The interests of Italians on Maps range from charging stations to food, passing through second hand clothing stores (+ 371%), vintage (+ 576%) and waste management centers. Google Maps reports that almost 40% of the inhabitants of Rome and Milan use alternative means to the car to move in a sustainable way in the city. In fact, these people choose to move by public transport, respectively 14% and 13.7%, using the bicycle (2.8% and 2%) or walking (22.2% and 23.8%). The fastest growing figure compared to 2022 is the use of bicycles, up by two percentage points for both cities. (HANDLE).
