(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 27 – The popularity of TikTok does not stop.
The social network of the Chinese ByteDance appears to be the most downloaded app in the world, including the United States, at the beginning of 2022, exceeding 3.5 billion downloads since it was available on the market. The analysis company Sensor Tower says so in its latest report. Twitter, acquired a few hours ago by Elon Musk, ranks 16th in the world for the most downloaded applications.
To complete the top five positions along with TikTok are Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram. The gap between TikTok and the social network led by Mark Zuckerberg is quite evident, as we are talking about about 160 million downloads.
As the Techcrunch site reports, since the beginning of 2022 TikTok has been downloaded more than 175 million times and has surpassed 10 million downloads in the past nine quarters, while YouTube has crossed the same threshold for eight consecutive quarters.
No app has had more downloads than TikTok since the beginning of 2018, when WhatsApp had 250 million downloads worldwide, according to the Sensor Tower report.
Looking at overall US downloads, TikTok has been the best app for each quarter since Q1 2021. The latest app to beat TikTok was Zoom in Q4 2020, which exploded in full pandemic and lockdown.
Finally, regarding the American market, from the first quarter of 2021, TikTok and YouTube were the first two apps on the US App Store for each quarter considered. TikTok was also the number one app on Google Play for the third consecutive quarter, with installations up 19% year over year.
