(ANSA) – MILAN – Google and Samsung have collaborated to create Health Connect, a platform and an API (programming interface) that offers developers a set of tools to synchronize user health data between different Android apps and devices. The novelty was announced during the Google I / O 2022 developer conference. The move should allow those who use wearable phones and accessories, from different brands, to still be able to synchronize their training or physical activity results, regardless of the manufacturer . A goal made easier by the presence of a single basic operating system, Android, which, however, does not always accommodate compatibility between the various brands. Google says users will have full control over what type of data they share and with which apps.

If more than one is collecting the same type of data, such as the steps taken, people can choose which source they prefer for that count, over the others. Health Connect supports over 50 types of data across multiple categories, including activity, body mass measurement, cycle tracking, nutrition, sleep, and vital signs. In addition to Samsung, Google is also working with MyFitnessPal, Leap Fitness, and Withings to expand their data integrations. “We are working with Google and other partners to realize the full benefits and potential of Health Connect,” said TaeJong Jay Yang, executive vice president of Samsung, in an official statement. “I am thrilled to confirm that Samsung Health will integrate Health Connect later this year. With the approval of users, this will allow app developers to leverage accurate and optimized data measured on the Galaxy Watch for Samsung Health and also use it in their apps. “.
