(ANSA) – MILAN, MAY 20 – Tiktok is conducting a series of tests to introduce games in chats, with the aim of increasing the time people spend on the platform. The news, launched by Reuters online, would represent an important market turning point for the app which, for months, has been feeling the pressure of competition from Meta, especially Instagram. According to the latest Business of Apps analysts, TikTok has reached 1.2 billion monthly active users by the end of 2021 and expects to reach 1.5 billion by the end of 2022.

A test of the video game project would have been conducted, for now, in Vietnam, a country where the use of the application is very high, with 70% of citizens under the age of 35.

According to Reuters, the company began experimenting with chat games using HTML5 technology, which quickly replaced Java programming in delivering dynamic content to websites. Among the partners of the very famous software house initiative, including Zynga, already active in the development of video games in internet browsers and in social networks such as Facebook.

“We are always looking for ways to enrich our platform and regularly test new features and integrations that add value to the user community,” a TikTok representative told Reuters. In 2021, the company acquired Shanghai-based gaming studio Moonton Technology, competing with Tencent, the largest Chinese tech company and among the top five in the world. TikTok’s foray into the world of video games mirrors the similar efforts made by other giants, which seek to retain users by opening up new business outlets. Meta launched Instant Games on Facebook in 2016 while, more recently, Netflix added a catalog of titles to its streaming platform to play on supported Android devices. (HANDLE).
