(ANSA) – MILAN – Over 70,000 videos have been removed and 9,000 channels have been closed from YouTube in Russia since the outbreak of the war. This was stated exclusively by the Guardian, which tells of how the platform part of the Alphabet group has accelerated the fight against disinformation among users. One of the reasons why the American giant is blocking the films and its Russian authors lies in the description of the contents on the war as a “liberation mission”. Since the start of the conflict in February, YouTube has removed channels of well-followed authors, from pro-Kremlin journalist Vladimir Solovyov to institutional profiles, including those associated with the ministries of defense and foreign affairs, temporarily suspended from uploading videos. And so we have enforced policies for take unprecedented action. ” In an interview, Mohan added that content on the conflict has received over 40 million views in Ukraine alone. The sharing site has around 90 million users in Russia and, although it no longer allows advertising investments from individuals and organizations in the country, it is still freely available to citizens unlike other apps, such as Facebook and Instagram, both blocked by Roskomnadzor. the agency responsible for communications in Moscow. Last week, the Russian minister for digital development, Maksut Shadaev, said that the country will not block YouTube: “We have no intention of closing YouTube – he explained – when we limit something, we should understand how our users will be affected” .
