After a run-in of over five years in the United States, Amazon Key also arrives in Italy. This is the service of the e-commerce giant with which carriers can deliver packages to recipients, if they live in condominiums, even in their absence. This is thanks to a digital bulletin board, placed at the entrance of the building, where the bellboys must authenticate themselves to have the door opened. The test, the news of which was reported by Corriere della Sera and not yet confirmed, would affect about 1,000 condominiums between Milan and Rome. The system will be managed by a sort of Laserwall digital whiteboard, which already produces screens for condominiums to have access to useful information, for example the repair professionals in the area, who will act as an automatic “doorman” for Amazon deliveries. Pending technical details on how Key will work, the Courier stresses that the carriers will be “identified and tracked in real time through the Amazon cloud”. Similarly to what happens in the US, also in Italy the couriers who deliver with Amazon Key will get access to the condominium through a temporary digital key valid only for one entrance. A method that has become common overseas especially to counter the phenomenon of “porch pirate”, ie the theft of packages when left out of homes in the absence of the recipient. Also in the United States, e-commerce has signed agreements with shopping centers and supermarkets to allow them to place their products on a particular showcase of the site and let users buy directly on the platform. At that point, the delivery man will pass by the store to collect the shopping and deliver it to the customer.
