Shatner, best known for playing Captain James T. Kirk from the Star Trek series and films, will join the rest of the crew on a flight of about 10 minutes to an altitude of just over 100 kilometers.

At 90, Shatner will become the oldest person in space, breaking the record set in the previous New Shepard flight by 82-year-old Wally Funk, who was granted a free flight by founder Jeff Bezos.

Shatner has played many roles in TV shows and films, but is best remembered as the commander of the USS Enterprise in the original Star Trek series from 1966 to 1969. He also starred in seven Star Trek feature films from 1979 to 1994.
