Windows 11: what are the minimum requirements?

Windows 11 has been available since October 5, 2021. With this new version, Microsoft offers a more modern and ergonomic interface. Widgets are also coming to Windows, while Microsoft Teams will be offered as an alternative to the FaceTime messaging that Apple offers on its Macs.

Microsoft is also taking the opportunity to redesign the Windows app store and, finally, the operating system supports Android applications, which you can install through the Amazon app store. In essence, lots of exciting new things await you.

In addition, as it did with Windows 10, Microsoft will offer Windows 11 for free, via an update, to users of the previous version. But of course, you will only be able to use Windows 11 if your device is compatible. And precisely, Microsoft has already published the minimum requirements for its new OS.

Minimum requirements to install Windows 11 (when it will be available)

First of all, your PC must have a processor clocked at 1 GHz minimum, with a minimum of 2 cores and 64-bit compatibility. You must also have at least 4 GB of RAM memory, as well as 64 GB of storage. The graphics card must be DirectX 12 / WDDM 2.x compatible. And your screen should be at least 9 inches diagonally, with at least 720p HD resolution, as well as 8 bits per color channel.

Microsoft also cites Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0 among the requirements to run Windows 11. And the firm specifies that during the installation of Windows 11 Home, an Internet connection and a Microsoft account are necessary.

Here, in summary, the minimum configurations required for Windows 11. However, Microsoft specifies that certain functions require configurations higher than the minimum required.

Windows 11 is therefore now available. But if you plan to update, you can now check whether your machine is capable of supporting this new version. Note also that Microsoft offers software, “PC Health Check”, which will tell you if your computer has the minimum required to run Windows 11.

A new OS designed for the post-COVID world?

For now, it is still too early to say whether Windows 11 will be a hit or not. But in any case, Microsoft is launching this new version at a time when PC sales are boosted by teleworking which, in the post-COVID world, will continue to be practiced.

Windows 11 can also be seen as Microsoft’s answer to macOS Monterey, the new version of macOS that Apple recently unveiled at its WWDC conference.
