(ANSA) – MILAN, 10 JUN – In 2021, Apple removed 1.6 million apps from its App Store, because they violated security policies and were able to steal or deceive users. This was stated by the same company with an update of the report on fraud prevention in 2021. Among the key findings, the analysis finds that Apple’s security mechanisms have made it possible to avoid scams for 1.5 billion dollars, possible if the fraudulent applications had been installed and used on iPhones and iPads, given the possibility that these could lead people to click on malicious links with the request for sensitive information, including payment card details. “Apple’s continued commitment to protecting users from fraudulent activity demonstrates once again why independent and respected security experts have said the App Store is the safest place to find and download apps,” the behemoth said. According to the numbers provided, Apple rejected 534,000 apps before they entered the digital store.

Of these, 157,000 were considered spam or copycats, 34,000 contained hidden or undocumented functionality, and 343 committed privacy violations. In addition to taking action on malicious apps, Apple also blocked 3.3 million allegedly stolen credit cards placed on the App Store in 2021.

As a result, 600,000 accounts using these payment methods were banned from permanent use of the platform. Apple’s fraud prevention mechanisms also disabled over 170 million malicious customer accounts and 802,000 developer profiles. About 94 million fake reviews removed and 190 million ratings that did not reach publication status. (HANDLE).
