Ukraine, the pro-Russians:

(ANSA) – BRUSSELS, JUN 13 – “Today, during a dedicated event, the European Joint Undertaking for High Performance Computing will inaugurate its latest LUMI supercomputer, located in Kajaani, Finland”. The European Commission has made it known.

“LUMI is the fastest and most energy efficient supercomputer in Europe, and the third fastest in the world.

It is a joint effort of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and a consortium of ten European countries: Finland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland.

“Today marks an important step in the digital and green transformation of Europe: LUMI is now the fastest and most energy efficient supercomputer in Europe and one of the most powerful in the world,” said Margrethe Vestager, Vice President executive for a Europe fit for the digital age. “Thanks to its enormous computational power, it will allow scientific advances, for example in medicine and climate research, to be made at a much faster pace. It could involve vaccine development, cancer diagnosis or mitigation of the effects of change. climate: this is a great example of the enormous potential of artificial intelligence to improve our lives. “

LUMI is the first of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking’s pre-exascale supercomputers to be launched. It will have an expected peak performance of 550 petaflops (550 million trillion calculations per second) and will be powered entirely by renewable energy.

In fact, LUMI uses natural cooling systems and its residual heat will represent about 20% of the urban heating of the city of Kajaani, substantially reducing the annual carbon footprint of the entire city. (HANDLE).
