The defense of our country against the Russian occupiers reinforced 155 mm CAESAR self-propelled artillery mounts. France provided such assistance to Ukraine. With these weapons, Ukrainian artillerymen operate on the principle of “maneuver-fire-manoeuvre.”

The site “Today” will tell you more about the new weapons in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Characteristics

Caesar is a new generation self-propelled artillery mount. It makes it possible to hit the enemy at a distance of 20 km or more from the front line with high accuracy. At this distance there is artillery, reserves, enemy command posts. Their destruction reduces the offensive potential of the enemy.

The self-propelled guns are mounted on a wheeled chassis, which makes them mobile and maneuverable. The installation is equipped with an automated system of self-binding and homing to the target. It can fire 5 rounds per minute, and also use several types of 155 mm ammunition used in NATO countries.

According to the Ukrainian military, when using a cannon, their task is only to enter coordinates, which can be done even when advancing to a position. After that, the electronic system itself will calculate all the data necessary to hit the target, select and process weather data. The convenience of using this weapon is evidenced by the fact that the time from taking a position to opening fire on CAESAR takes from 3 to 5 minutes.

As for the means of destruction, the main pleasant surprise of self-propelled ammunition from other analogues is the mode of their air blast, which, unlike the usual one, has a greater effect in destroying enemy manpower.

For firing, high-explosive fragmentation, cluster (contains 63 cluster bombs), smoke, lighting shells, active-rocket shells, as well as BONUS anti-tank guided shells are used.
