MacBook Air M2: launching on July 15?

During its WWDC conference, which is centered on software, Apple created a surprise by unveiling its new M2 chip, as well as two new Macs: the MacBook Air M2 and the MacBook Pro M2. The new MacBook Pro is already available and, incidentally, Lemon Squeezer has already had the opportunity to test the product.

As for the MacBook Air M2, it will be available from July, but Apple has not yet indicated a date. However, in an article published this week, our colleagues at MacRumours relay sources indicating that the new MacBook Air with M2 chip will be marketed from July 15. And because of this, we can expect pre-orders to start on July 8.

MacBook Air M2: new design and new chip

Of course, the main novelty of the MacBook Air M2 is its Apple Silicon chip. Although it is still engraved in 5 nm, it still brings significant improvements compared to the M1.

Apple is talking about a CPU that has an 18% performance gain, a GPU with a 35% performance gain, and a 40% more efficient neural engine. The firm has also provided the component with a memory bandwidth increased by 50%.

“M2 launches the second generation of M-series chips and goes beyond the remarkable features of M1”said Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technologies. “Thanks to our consistent focus on power-efficient performance, M2 delivers a faster CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine. And with higher memory bandwidth and new capabilities like ProRes acceleration, M2 continues the breakneck pace of innovation in Apple silicon for Mac. »

On the design side, Apple has completely revised the MacBook Air. On the M2 model, we have thin borders around the screen and (unfortunately) a notch for the webcam. Bulk has been reduced by 20% thanks to a thin and light design, and the MagSafe connector is back.

Among the improvements, we can also mention the screen which is 25% bright, or the new HD webcam which should improve the experience for those who are videoconferences.

The base price is 1,499 euros for the 256 GB model and the colors are: midnight, starlight, space gray, and silver. Note that the MacBook Air M1 is still marketed, with a starting price of 1,199 euros.
