WhatsApp, you can hide your online status from everyone

Covid, Best (Fiaso):

Meta’s own messaging app, WhatsApp, is working on a new feature that will give users the ability to hide their online status from everyone. This is an extension of what has already been made possible by the option to show only some contacts the information about the last access. The novelty, identified by the WabetaInfo site, refers to a version of the app for iOS, still under development and not yet made available to beta testers. Once implemented, users will be able to choose who can view their online status.

As shown in one of the screens shared by WabetaInfo, it will be possible to configure who can see when we are online directly from the settings, thanks to a new window relating to the online status with the options ‘Everyone’ and ‘As last seen’. For example, by choosing ‘My contacts’ as the circle to be allowed to see the last access, by selecting the same option in the new box, the online activity will be made invisible to those who are not in the address book. For maximum privacy there will be the “None” option, with which information on the online status will be hidden even from your friends and family.

However, sharing will be necessary in order to see the online status of other users, as happens for the blue check next to the delivery and reading of messages. WabetaInfo notes that, even if the screenshot refers to the beta for iOS, WhatsApp plans to introduce the same functionality in a future update also for Android and for the declination of the app on computers.
