Facebook will soon be able to create 5 profiles per user

To respond to the slow growth of users and competition from rivals, Meta has launched an experimental phase with which it allows some Facebook users to connect 4 other profiles to the basic one. As part of the test, explains the TechCrunch site, the social network allows you to have a maximum of 5 profiles per person, even with invented names, to interact on the platform in a different way, with personalized content according to identities and peculiar preferences.

The idea is to let users have a Facebook account exclusively for their colleagues and another for friends or a completely new profile to follow influencers and artists in general.

“To help subscribers personalize their experience based on interests and relationships, we are testing a way to allow you to have more than one profile tied to a single Facebook account,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. In addition to the main account, users will be able to create new ones without using real identifiers, switching from one profile to another simply by clicking on their photo at the top right of the site and app for smartphones and tablets. As the company points out, all account profiles will be subject to Facebook’s policies, which prohibit the use of names and images of third parties and public figures.

For this reason, any violation carried out by one of the profiles will also have consequences on the others, with time limits and any permanent bans. The new rules are a major change from Facebook’s traditional policy, which requires users to use their true identity online. Competitors such as TikTok, Twitter and even Meta-owned Instagram itself allow everyone to use invented usernames, even for greater privacy. In recent months, Meta has had to face a real decline in profits, so much so that Mark Zuckerberg has spotted employees preparing for tough times, with possible staff reductions and increased individual work effort.
