(ANSA) – MILAN, 20 JUL – Google plans to test its new augmented reality glasses, heirs of Google Glass, starting next month. This was announced by the company with a blog post by product manager Juston Payne.

“This will allow us to better understand how such devices can help people in their daily lives,” he wrote. “And in developing new experiences, such as augmented reality navigation, we will be able to take into account factors such as the weather and busy intersections, which can be difficult, sometimes impossible, to recreate completely indoors.” During its latest I / O, the developer event, Google showed how some apps for eyewear prototypes work, the design of which is still unknown to this day. These include real-time translation, which shows the translated text on the spectacle wearer’s view, through the lenses. The Verge reports that Google hopes to ship the “new” Glass, codenamed “Project Iris” to consumers in 2024. According to a Google support page, the company will test a “small number” of prototypes in select areas of the United States with “strict restrictions on where testers can operate and the type of business they can engage in.” Users will need to undergo “training on devices, with protocols for privacy and security”. The company warns that the glasses will look like traditional models but with a display in the lens and “visual and audio sensors” like a microphone and camera. An LED indicator will tell people nearby if the recordings will be saved for “analysis”, and they can request deletion. “In case of registration – continues Payne – the data is first obscured in sensitive content, including faces and license plates and then stored on a secure server, with limited access by a small number of employees. After 30 days, everything is deleted” . (HANDLE).
