(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 21 – Investors’ interest in the world of innovation and consequently for startups is growing.

In the first half of this year, venture capital operations in the Italian market saw the amount invested in Italian startups rise to 957 million euros, more than double in one year (+ 123%).

Domestic operators, which make up the lion’s share with 671 million invested, together with foreign ones, from which 286 million came, have completed a total of 161 rounds, against 141 in the first six months of 2021 (+ 14%). On the contrary, there is a slowdown in loans in foreign entities founded by Italian entrepreneurs, from 379 million to 176 million euros, with 11 transactions, in line with the previous year.

Adding these two components together, venture capital operations overall rose to 172 (+ 12%) for a total of 1.1 billion euros in the half year. These are the data collected by the Venture Capital Monitor, created by the homonymous Observatory active at Liuc Business School, with the contribution of the Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center and thanks to the institutional support of Cdp Venture Capital Sgr and Iban. “The Italian economy is financing innovation and I believe that we will have a year of good results”, comments Aifi’s president, Innocenzo Cipolletta, underlining that the numbers are “surprising” and show how “innovation is fundamental to allow economy to advance, even and above all in times of crisis “. These results also “bring Italy closer to the size of other countries, although we still have a long way to go”. (HANDLE).
