(ANSA) – MILAN, JUL 28 – As expected months ago, Google has updated the Gmail interface for everyone in the last few hours. The graphic novelty makes the various services of the American giant more uniform by integrating them into e-mail. Meet, Chat and Spaces, respectively for video calls, chats and shared workspaces, become part of Gmail, with quick access and contextual menus via browser. Big G also said that by the end of the year, there will be more enhancements to Gmail on tablets, emoji support, and more accessibility features. Anyone who does not want to use the new interface can go back to the previous one, at least until Google decides to make it mandatory and definitive. The updated version of Gmail moves the Mail, Meet, Spaces and Chat buttons in a list to the top instead of showing several conversations in a list. The changes are part of Google’s new general approach to the Workspace suite, which includes productivity web apps, such as Docs and Sheets, Calendar for task management, Sites for building sites, Meet for video calls and meetings, Keep for notes, Chat for messaging. The will is to gradually insert more functions based on artificial intelligence, such as suggestions on recipients of an email and search in email messages. Last week, the Danish digital data protection agency, Datatilsynet, banned the use of Google products (including Gmail, Google Docs, Calendar and Google Drive) in schools in Denmark, because they would not comply with the European regulation on data protection.
