Samsung starts DIY repair program in the US

Milan, over 2000 irregular workers discovered: 22 suspects (ANSA)

(ANSA) – MILAN, 04 AUGUST – Four months after the announcement, Samsung and iFixit are launching the joint “do-it-yourself” repair program for smartphones. The partnership, currently only active in the United States, allows users to purchase the spare parts of their Samsung smartphones to fix at home on the iFixit website, specialized in hi-tech gadget repairs, with access to instructions on how to proceed. Among the elements on which to intervene are including displays, batteries, charging ports and back covers, all accompanied by a repair kit and official instructions from Samsung. The company proves to have a particularly attentive eye to the environment, so it also sends together with the kits special envelopes in which to insert the spare parts to be returned to the sender to be recycled.

“We work with Samsung to make it easier for all Galaxy owners to repair their devices,” writes iFixit. “With this offer, you can extend the life of your products, promote a circular economy and minimize electronic waste.” To date, the list of smartphones compatible with the service is limited.

The initiative does not go beyond the Galaxy S21 and S20 family while, on the tablet front, there is only the Galaxy Tab S7 +. Therefore, all the mid-range Galaxy are missing, which are the best sellers of the series. The figures needed to repair the phones range from $ 66.97 for a Type-C charging port up to $ 239.99 to purchase the Galaxy S21 Ultra display kit. Prices not too far from those requested by authorized service centers which however provide for longer waiting times. “In the future, Samsung plans to expand self-repair to more devices and more types of repairs from our wide range of products,” iFixit concludes on its website.
