(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 16 – WhatsApp is the favorite messaging app of Italians, on average in the first half of 2022 it was used by 33.1 million people. It also peaked at around 35 million users in June. Followed by Messenger (also from the Meta group) and Telegram and Discord, born for the world of games, comes forward. This is the analysis of the social media expert Vincenzo Cosenza, which is based on the ‘Audiweb powered by Nielsen’ surveys.
According to the analysis, WhatsApp – which recently added privacy features – averaged 10 hours and 50 minutes per person per month in early this year, peaking at 11 hours and 29 minutes in January. Compared to the corresponding months of the previous year – notes the expert – there is a “negligible” decline of 1.4%, while looking further back in time you can appreciate its growth: in 2019 the average of users was 31 , 8 million “. Regarding Messenger, there were about 17.3 million average users in the first part of 2022. But the decrease compared to the previous year was 21% equal to 4.5 million fewer people” a difficulty of Zuckerberg’s app to find its place with respect to its acquired sister WhatsApp “. The Italians who used Discord in 2022 were 1.9 million, up 29% compared to the previous year. The average time spent here is around 1 hour and 20 minutes per person per month. Finally, notes Cosenza, all the other niche chats have suffered a significant decline compared to the year of the pandemic: Skype remains with a hard core of 3.1 million monthly users (-14% compared to 2021), with a time of ” use of 27 minutes (-40%). Google Hangouts, now Google Chats, and Google Meet together reach 1.8 million people (-52%). An app that has been on the market since 2010 is Kik. In our country it is still used by 1.1 million users (-16%).
This is followed by the most security-conscious app, Signal, with just over 500,000 users (-48%) and a usage time of about 1 hour.
