(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 18 – A massive series of cyber attacks on August 17 affected public and private institutions, as well as the Estonian private sector. This was announced by Luukas Ilves, Undersecretary for Digital Transformation of the Estonian Government. For Estonia, it was the most massive hacker attack of the last 15 years which, however, did not cause particular problems for the country’s computer system. The attack took place a couple of days after the disputed relocation of a Soviet WWII monument from the border town of Narva as part of a program to remove all Soviet monuments still present in Estonian public space. In recent weeks, large-scale attacks had been suffered by the computer systems of neighboring Latvia. (HANDLE).
