God of War PC is not developed in-house by Sony

Sony’s efforts to deliver the God of War of 2018 to an audience other than PlayStation did not go as far as an in-house port. A Canadian studio, Jetpack Interactive, was called in for this task.

For less than a week, we know that God of War will be a reality on PC from January 14, 2022. Note that we are talking here about the title released in 2018 on PlayStation 4 and not the very first part of the series initially released on PS2.

In an article by Ars Technica where this announcement was reported, we learn via a paper update that the PC version of God of War was not developed in-house at Sony.

God of War PC : Jetpack Interactive sous la supervision de Santa Monica

Sony representatives recently confirmed that God of War PC is being made under the supervision of Sony Santa Monica, with the bulk of the work going to Jetpack Interactive. This Vancouver-based Canadian studio has, we are told, never worked with Sony until now. He did however specialize in porting and support developments, VGC mentioning Plants vs. Zombies : Garden Warfare II, the PC version of Dark Souls as well as several iterations of the NBA Live basketball franchise.

As it turns out, the LinkedIn profile of one of the programmers working at Jetpack Interactive indicates that he is currently working on God of War: Ragnarok. Unless there is an error, either Warren Lee would be directly related to the development of God of War: Ragnarok on consoles, or the title would already be on PC. In any case, we seem to detect there a certain confidence of Sony in this external studio.

A few weeks ago, we learned that if God of War: Ragnarok had missed his exit window for 2021, it was due to an injury contracted by the actor playing Kratos. Santa Monica had thus wanted to give Christopher Judge time to recover before launching the commercial machine. God of War: Ragnarok is now scheduled to land next year on PlayStation 4 and 5.
