Forget the Apple Glass for now, the project is going through a heavy crisis

Mark Gurman, a famous Apple analyst, assures that the company’s project similar to Google Glass is on hold. More precisely, Cupertino would have stopped its development without planning any release date. This does not clearly mean that the project is abandoned, as was the case for the AirPower charger. But its stage of progress is apparently worse than that of the Apple Car, also delayed, but on which dozens of Apple engineers still seem to be working.

Good to know, however: this information concerns only the lightest frame and is not to be taken into account about the virtual reality headset from Apple. This one is indeed still in the boxes and we could be entitled to the first software details no later than this month. The final presentation, meanwhile, is reportedly scheduled for the Worldwide Developer Conference in June. And pre-orders could be delivered as early as the end of the year for the most optimistic predictions, or even in 2024 for the most pessimistic.

What will Apple Glass offer?

The value proposition of Apple Glass is relatively simple. This involves using a microprojector installed in a pair of glasses to project a virtual screen on its lenses, facing your eyes, so that it appears to display dimensions similar to the one of a TV. Then, the user would have the possibility of deporting all the apps from his iPhone there, as the Apple Watch already does very well for example on our wrists.

Among the features clearly mentioned by our colleagues from iPhon.fr, we can notably mention the synchronization of notifications, the GPS which will avoid taking your eyes off the road for more security or the photo library. If a sensor is also part of capturing images, Apple will also have to integrate a diode to warn those around you that the camera is activated. This is already the case with the smartglasses of some competing brands.

The question of autonomy always arises

As for the potential factors of slowing down the project across the Atlantic, we can undoubtedly cite that of the rather complicated design of the battery. Google Glass has had some serious overheating problems in their infancy and this is also what killed the creation of the AirPower in the bud.

For the VR headset, Apple would have imagined a system with this component installed around the waist and connected to the eyewear by a cable. But not sure that this model will be emulated…
