Clubhouse will update its iOS and Android app on October 27 with the introduction of featured links in every room. The creators of audio-only chat rooms, or moderators, will be able to place hyperlinks at the top of the window, so they always have them close at hand. The novelty will help not only to provide sources of what is being discussed but also to promote products and services covered by the room itself.
The new function was made official by Clubhouse CEO Paul Davison and global head of marketing Maya Watson. Some links will not be allowed for security and moderation reasons. Davison did not explicitly mention what will be banned but quoted OnlyFans to underline the type of connection not suitable for appearing in the rooms.
Anyone will be able to add, edit or remove a link, as long as they are the moderator of the room, regardless of the number of followers they have. The CEO stressed that Clubhouse will not deduct anything from any revenue creators can get from sponsoring links, selling books or subscriptions to online services. Davison, however, said that the team will share some updates on news regarding monetization in the coming months. In recent weeks there has been talk of some hypotheses, such as paid rooms, similar to the ‘tickets’ of Twitter’s Spaces.
