Einstein Telescope, soon the candidacy with Meloni

Italy’s candidacy to host the Einstein Telescope will soon be officially announced, with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. This was stated by the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, at the Conference of Scientific and Space Employees organized at the University of Padua by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. “The government strongly believes in the initiative” and “we believe that the Sos Enattos mine is the perfect place, and it’s not just us who say it, but Nobel Prize winner Giorgio Parisi. If he says so, we believe it and we work for it with all our Force”.

Italy has identified the Sos Enattos mine, in the province of Nuoro, to host the Einstein Telescope, the large infrastructure for the study of gravitational waves. “It is an extremely innovative and sensitive underground observatory through which we will be able to study more and better the deep universe, dark matter and dark energy. Some say very lyrically that we will be able to hear the music of black holes,” added Bernini.

“This is not just a statement of fundamental and theoretical physics, there is everything: cosmology, astrophysics, there will be a great enhancement of some sectors such as mechanics, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, optics. Imagine everything that will revolve around a research infrastructure of this kind in terms of acquiring new technologies and obviously great enhancement of the territory that will host it. We believe in it very much”, he underlined.
