The damaged Soyuz returns to Earth DIRECT FROM 11.30

Expected at 11.57 am Italian today for the return to Earth from the International Space Station of the Russian shuttle Soyuz MS22, in which a loss of coolant was detected in mid-December 2022.

For safety reasons, the shuttle will return without a crew and will have to bring a load of more than two quintals of materials to Earth, including those relating to some scientific experiments conducted on the Space Station. The landing is expected after about two hours, at 1.45 pm in the steppe of Kazakhstan.

In September 2022 the Soyuz MS22 had carried the Russians Sergei Prokopeyev, Dmitry Petelin and the American Frank Rubio to the orbital station, but the problem with the thermal control system that occurred in December prevented the shuttle from returning to Earth with men on board. Consequently, on February 24, the Russian space agency Roscomos sent another Soyuz, the MS23, to allow the three to return to Earth safely.
