The strip of alluvial sediments that poured into the Adriatic Sea coloring over 33 kilometers of the Romagna coast after the exceptional rains that hit the Region in recent days is clearly visible from space. This is demonstrated by the image captured on May 4 by the Sentinel-3 satellite of the Copernicus Earth observation program, of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Commission.
The satellite image, elaborated and disseminated on Twitter by the Adam (Advanced geospatial Data Management) platform, shows the effect of the wind and sea currents that carried the sediments for kilometers in the Adriatic, painting plumes in shades of blue and light brown.
The eye of European satellites is also helping to analyze the situation in the most affected areas to facilitate emergency management. In the past few hours, the Civil Protection has activated the Rapid Mapping Team of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service to monitor the consequences of the flood. Four areas of interest were analysed: Spazzate-Sassatelli, Lamone-Faenza, Bagnacavallo, Idice-Molinella.
