Systems and technologies for optimizing environmental systems and services

Water is becoming an even more precious commodity due to the extreme manifestations caused by climate change. Man has always made extensive use of it for food, agricultural and industrial purposes. It is necessary not only to rationalize its consumption, but also to provide for the reuse of water resources already used, in a circular economy perspective. Wastewater treatment consists of a series of processes whose objective is to eliminate contaminants and obtain purified water, which can be reintroduced into the production cycle in compliance with current legislation.

After having studied the plant characteristics of a purification process thanks to the collaboration with the Engineering department of the University of Pavia, we have designed a system for detecting the sedimentation speed using the Arduino electronic board and we have simulated the automatic control of a plant tank for post chlorination purified water storage via programmable logic controller (PLC). THE

The team is made up of students from different fields of study and intends to contribute to an improvement in the automation process of a chemical control analytical procedure and to the engineering optimization of a plant segment. The use of software simulation makes it possible to overcome the limitations imposed by the meager equipment available in school laboratories and to create an open source experimental prototype, a product that bears witness to the determination of the three students to stem the environmental emergency to which our generation must deal forehead.
