Brace yourself, the Apple VR headset spec sheet is monstrous

  • Apple’s VR headset could carry two 4K screens
  • It’s better than all the other mainstream headsets out there
  • The device would also be ultra-bright: 5,000 nits on the program!

The mixed reality headset that Apple is preparing, perhaps called Reality Pro, should carry two 4K screens: one for each eye. Yes, you read correctly. It is Ross Young who affirms it, the analyst having already been right many times in the past when it comes to sharing rumors concerning the future products of the firm at the apple – which this one tries to keep secrets until the last moment.

These technical specifications are clearly of another order of magnitude than almost all that can be found as alternatives on the market today. What’s more, Young assures that the pixel density will reach no less than 4,000 ppi for a brightness of more than 5,000 nits. For comparison, that’s ten times the screen of the best MacBook Pro today. The Quest Pro, meanwhile, now offers a duo of LCD panels with 1,800 x 1,920 pixels per eye, compared to 1,920 x 1,080 pixels for the Japanese Sony’s PlayStation VR.

Top-flight performance

This surprising (not to say hard to believe) data sheet could explain why other clues suggest that Apple is preparing no less than two M2 chips to power its mixed reality headset. This processor already equips the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro as well as a MacBook Air, a Mac mini and a MacBook Pro. The iMac could also be entitled to it, by a next edition which has not yet been presented to the general public.

On the autonomy side, there too Apple would have planned very heavy since its Reality Pro could last two hours in a row on a single charge. But that’s without counting on the potential additional batteries, which users could be able to buy at will to gain endurance. Like DJI does with its drones, for example.

See you in less than a week!

The Reality Pro should be unveiled during the Worldwide Developer Conference, which begins with an opening keynote on June 5 at 7 p.m. (Paris time), at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino. To afford it, however, customers may have to wait a while: it is possible that the beast will not be available until next year.

Beyond the technical characteristics, it is also the price that will be salty. The researchers are thus betting on a price of around three thousand dollars, therefore more in euros according to Apple’s habits in this area. Fortunately, another model, more affordable, would be in the boxes for later.
