Scientists have found a “fake moon” that existed for thousands of years: it turned out to be completely different from what everyone thought

The universe still hides many secrets, so sometimes interesting nuances arise with clues. In early 2023, scientists discovered a quasi-moon or “false moon” orbiting our planet.

In fact, 2023 FW13 is just an asteroid actually orbiting the Sun. However, the asteroid has a special orbit that has kept it close to the Earth since time immemorial – since about 100 BC. The details were told by Space.

2023 FW13 is a relatively small asteroid. In width, it reaches only 10-15 m, which is comparable to the size of an ordinary urban five-story building. The asteroid caused a resonance due to an unusual orbital trajectory. Astronomers voiced forecasts that the celestial body will be in close proximity to the Earth for another 1500 years.

This isn’t the first time scientists have spotted a likely quasi-moon, but FW13 is the longest ever discovered.

FW13 has no gravitational connection to the Earth, but stays so close to its surface that, according to preliminary estimates, scientists plan to take advantage of it when launching space missions.

There is a hypothesis that the “false moon” can become something like a “polygon” for flights into deep space. It will take astronauts just a few months to fly to FW13 from Earth.

The search for a “second moon” has been going on for several decades. Part of the hope is driven by the discovery of new moons orbiting Saturn and Jupiter.

Earlier, GLOBAL HAPPENINGS also said that “interstellar invaders” stuck in a trap could circle the Earth.
