Meta overtakes Apple, and announces its Quest 3

June is shaping up to be a major month for mixed reality. Four days before Apple, Meta draws its Quest 3.

It is via Mark Zuckerberg’s official Instagram account that the new Meta virtual/mixed reality headset has just been unveiled. The Quest 3 improves, logically, in every way. We take a full look at what’s new.

What’s new for Meta Quest 3?

Even if the brand has not yet unveiled the technical data sheet for its new helmet, we already know a lot. The Quest 3 embarks improved optics and a new screen with the highest resolution in the range. It will also be the first headset to incorporate a next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon chip.

Thanks to the latter, the performance of the GPU will be doubled compared to the Quest 2. You will therefore gain in fluidity thanks to the new SoC, and in sharpness thanks to the new generation optics.

The Meta Quest 3 is a mixed reality headset, which allows you to mix virtual and physical world. You can therefore use the elements of your environment for playful experiences. The official video presents an example of a game on the coffee table in the living room. All this is made possible thanks to Meta Reality technology.

All this is made possible thanks to the four cameras located on the front of the helmet, which will faithfully transcribe the colors and depth of the real world.

A slimmer design

Its profile is 40% thinner than the Quest 2, the Quest 3 gains in elegance and comfort. The joysticks (Touch Plus) are also redesigned in terms of design, but also with the integration of TruTouch haptic feedback. The Quest 3 will be compatible with the controllers of the Meta Quest Pro.

It will benefit from the catalog of more than 500 games and applications in VR, and Meta announces the arrival of new titles to use the capacities of mixed reality. If Apple’s headset at WWDC on Monday is expected, the Meta Quest 3 could overshadow it thanks to its aggressive price.

What price for the Meta Quest 3 in France?

The Meta Quest 3 will be launched in France this fall, and the firm is meeting on September 27 for its Meta Connect event to find out more. For the moment it is impossible to pre-order it, the official Meta page only allows you to enter your email address to be notified when sales open. Its price is official: 569.99 euros.
