(ANSA) – ROME, NOVEMBER 12 – For the 2021 edition of the digitalization index of the economy and society (Desi) Italy ranks 20 / o among the 27 EU member states, since 25 / or the previous edition. However, Italy is “significantly behind other EU countries in terms of human capital”, the report reads.

In 2021, the Commission adjusted Desi to reflect the two main policy initiatives that will impact digital transformation in the EU over the next few years: the Resilience and Recovery Facility and the compass for the digital decade. The indicators are now 4 (there is no longer the use of digital services). Italy ranks 25th for human capital. Only 42% of people aged between 16 and 74 have at least basic digital skills (56% in the EU) and only 22% have digital skills above basic ones (31% in the EU).

The percentage of ICT specialists in Italy is 3.6% of total employment, still below the EU average (4.3%). Only 1.3% of Italian graduates choose ICT disciplines, a figure well below the EU average, while the gender issue is average.

“In conclusion, Italy has to face significant gaps in basic and advanced digital skills, which risk leading to the digital exclusion of a significant part of the population and limiting the innovation capacity of companies. The National Strategy for Digital Skills represents an important achievement and an opportunity to bridge this gap, “the report underlines. (HANDLE).
